Our Second Day in the Dominican Republic
This is Brooke, coming to you live from the D. R. When i woke up this morning, I was pleasantly suprised not to see any spiders on the ceiling above my bed. After we got ready we headed down to breakfast and we were welcomed by pancakes and papaya juice, which was too sweet for me, but Ian, on the other hand, inhaled 6 glasses. I tried jelly on my pancakes for the first time and it was delicious. We were taken on a tour of the village, and shown our future work sites. Walking about 5 miles was not the greatest but seeing the difference between their culture and ours was really cool. I had a lot of fun with the kids who walked with us. They were so precious. We visited their village´s baseball field. It was kind of sad to see the difference in the quality of the field and their homes...the baseball field was much nicer. On the way home, we saw the arena where the chicken fights take place. When we returned to the compound we ate a lunch of rice and chicken, which was followed by a tour of the compund. We got to see the goat farm, which is the main source of income for the ministry. While at the farm, we saw the milking station and later Cole, Meredith, and I were able to milk a goat ourselves. One of the female goats was going into labor and about to have her kid, or so we thought... While the 3 of us, plus Coach, were at the farm to milk the goats, we visited her. There were some complications with the baby, and we didn´t think it was going to make it. One of the owners of the farm, Linda, was helping deliver the kid. She said before it was born that it was dead and we needed to pray. After the baby was born, God healed him and he started to move on his own. Linda said if it wasn´t for our prayers, he wouldn´t be alive. His nickname is Jesus ;) I can´t wait to see what God does tomorrow. Now off to bed! Buenas noches (I´m way better at Spanish now)
